Courtney Innis

Registered Osteopath

Courtney is an accomplished, dynamic osteopath prioritising mobility and tissue resilience. Courtney discovered his love of osteopathy at seventeen years old during work experience at a local exercise rehabilitation centre. He was drawn to the more holistic approach of the osteopaths he shadowed, finding the philosophy of seeing the body as one whole unit rather than simply treating one symptom at a time to really resonate with him.

Having decided that this was the career path for him – He went on to study at the European School of Osteopathy in Maidstone, where he enjoyed experiencing and honing his skills in a wide, varied range of osteopathic techniques and practices – from classical to visceral osteopathy.

After qualifying Courtney was keen to experience working within the NHS, securing a role in NHS practice in Westminster. His experience here was key in honing his skills and allowed him to gain practical experience in treating a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions. Working alongside a team of dedicated professionals including other osteopaths, GP’s, physiotherapists and orthopaedic specialists, was fundamental in influencing his own bedside manner and he learnt a lot about his practice while providing comprehensive care to patients, utilising his expertise in osteopathy to alleviate pain, restore mobility, and improve overall health in the patients he saw.

Travel has always been a passion of Courtney’s and he always dreamed of living and working for a time in a different country. Driven by a desire to explore different healthcare systems and expand professional and personal horizons, Courtney ventured to New Zealand. This time experiencing working in a private practice in the capital city of Wellington – he embraced the opportunity to apply his osteopathic knowledge and skills in a new cultural setting. Whilst working here he delivered personalised care to individuals of all ages, helping them achieve optimal musculoskeletal health and promoting the body’s natural healing abilities. Courtney stayed in New Zealand for 2 years, and made the most of exploring the natural beauty and stunning landscapes his temporary home had to offer. A particular highlight of his would have to be exploring the tranquil lakes of the South Island which were unbelievably picturesque.

Another key life experience that helps Courtney to advocate for an exciting, and different approach to osteopathic techniques is his background in Martial arts. He achieved a black belt in Kyokushin karate and was the British youth Champion in the national Kata and kumite championships three times, and as a youth even went on to represent his country on an international level. Combined with his formal osteopathic training, his knowledge of martial arts gives him an extensive knowledge of human movement and biomechanics, Courtney excels in diagnosing and rehabilitating sports-related injuries. He takes a holistic approach, addressing the underlying causes of pain and tailoring personalised treatment plans to optimise overall well-being.

Courtney is driven to continually improve osteopathic practices, and to broaden the spectrum of his knowledge. In the past he has undertaken training in things such as, dry needling, cupping , diagnostic ultrasound and even vitamin injections. He has no plans to stop increasing his knowledge, and is dedicated to continual learning, he is super interested in learning shockwave therapy, and gaining more experience in pilates. Academically Courtney aspires to complete more post grad training. His long term goals are to help tutor new osteopaths, and to bring more recognition and accessibility of osteopathy to the public.

Courtneys personal life and values align strongly with his osteopathic practice. He is happiest when out in nature, enjoying hiking, camping and especially wild food foraging. Mushrooms are his speciality and he has managed to find many delicious edible varieties in his trips up and down the UK. As a member of Mensa, he is a big fan of keeping his brain agile, and is partial to a game of chess and loves a good puzzle!

Sport has always been a massive part in his life, and he throws himself into any new activity he can, last summer he joined a new local tennis club and currently swimming is the forefront of his exercise regime, from training at the pool, to braving the cold waters on a more wild dip, usually with the help of a wetsuit, his goal is eventually to participate in open water swim challenges, such as the great north swim, in order to raise money for the British Heart Foundation, a charity which is close to his and his families heart.

Courtney firmly believes in fully embodying the active lifestyle that he advocates for his patients, applying the values that he integrates into his treatments to empower patients in their recovery journey.

Building strong relationships with his patients is absolutely key to Courtneys practice – he stayed at his previous practice for seven years, where he got to know his patients on a meaningful level. He aims to foster a warm and empathetic, comfortable environment within the treatment room. He believes in educating individuals about their bodies, empowering them to take an active role in their own health. Courtney is passionate about staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in his field, which ensures that his patients receive the highest standard of care.

Courtney is excited to join the team at Body Tonic and is looking forward to getting to know their valued patients.
