1. The First Signs: Home Self-Check
The initial diagnostic step starts with you. Learning to recognise the core symptoms can help you prepare for a consultation:
- Palpable Plaque: Do you feel a lump or hard area beneath the skin of the penis, even when flaccid? This is the core plaque of Peyronie’s Disease.
- Curvature and Deformity: Does your penis bend, curve, or narrow during an erection? This change is caused by the plaque preventing the tissue underneath from expanding properly. - Pain: Do you experience pain during an erection, especially in the early (Acute) phase of the condition?
- Shortening: Has your penis experienced a noticeable loss of length?
Action Tip: If you notice a new lump or curvature, document the changes. A practitioner will need to know when the symptoms started, as this determines your disease stage.
2. The Clinical Assessment (Physical Exam)
When you consult a healthcare professional-a GP or, ideally, a men’s health practitioner-they will conduct a clinical assessment.
- Patient History Review: The practitioner will ask about the onset of symptoms (when the lump or bend appeared), any history of penile injury or trauma, and whether you are experiencing associated Erectile Dysfunction (ED).
- Physical Examination: This involves a gentle, hands-on examination to precisely locate and measure the plaque. The practitioner will also assess the surrounding tissues and skin.

3. Your Next Step: Immediate Treatment Planning
Once the diagnosis has been confirmed in our clinic, we move straight to action.
