“What I love about Osteopathy is that I get to meet a wide variety of people from all walks of life and cultures. I love to help people achieve their goals and to help them improve their health and get back to the things they love doing. Getting to know patients and understand how they live their lives helps me to understand their pain and injuries which in turn allows me to provide the best care possible.”
At the core of Isabel’s practice is the Osteopathic approach that, as a health practitioner, you should not only focus on the site of pain but find and treat the root cause of the issue to truly have long term resolution. She will individualise the treatment to you, to provide either a more gentle and relaxing massage approach, osteopathic manual techniques (such as joint manipulation or ‘clicking’ and articulation to release tightness) or deep tissue massage. She promotes stretching and exercise programmes, which she will carefully tailor to you to be continued in your own time to help improve your symptoms. Alternatively, she may address any muscle imbalances or weaknesses that may be contributing to your symptoms. As an osteopath, Isabel will also provide lifestyle advice specific to a patient’s commitments both in and out of work, these may include meditation or mindfulness which Isabel has a particular interest in prior to starting her journey as an osteopath.
“It’s really key for me as an osteopath to provide a really holistic approach to a patient’s treatment. That’s what I love about osteopathy – it’s really individual and tailored towards every single patient, no patient is the same. One minute I could be treating a rugby player with a shoulder injury, the next minute I could be treating an eldery patient who recently had a fall.”
Isabel is also a qualified Clinical Pilates teacher and is currently offering 1 to 1 mat- based Pilates appointments at Bodytonic. She carried out her Pilates training and realised it can help the general population to function well in everyday life, feel stronger, flexible and move more confidently, even those with long history of discomfort such as lower back pain. She started doing Pilates herself to help reduce lower back pain while doing deadlifts and squats, and found that the core strength and general flexibility built by practicing just a couple of times a week transformed her strength and training, and got rid of any lower back pain.
Isabel enjoys making tailored Pilates exercise plans for all individuals including beginners. Every Pilates session will be different, and the exercises will be carefully selected to suit and challenge you just the right amount. Various pieces of Pilates and exercise equipment will also be used to keep the sessions varied and interesting.
Isabel has also tailored Pilates plans to the active population including runners and dancers looking to reduce chance of injury and improve athletic performance. She also sees many desk based people and has seen great results in terms of their posture, muscle recruitment and flexibility especially after a long day at the desk. Pilates has also helped her patients with osteoporosis and balance issues build up strength to feel and move a lot more confidently in every day life.
When she is not at work Isabel loves to keep up with her fitness. In particular, weightlifting and gym based exercise. Isabel also loves attending festivals and exploring the city of London. Additionally, Isabel is studying her grade 7 on piano whilst practicing mindfulness and meditation.
Additionally, she has completed CPD training and has qualifications in:
