What is Reformer Pilates?

Pilates reformer is a type of pilates that uses a pilates machine with pulleys and ropes to create added resistance to the exercises. The machine can be used in various ways but it usually involves pulling or pushing against the resistance with the arms or legs. Similarly, you can do mat-based pilates with added resistance by using resistance bands and weights to make the exercises more challenging. The reformer machine was invented by Joseph pilates, who used the machine to train professional dancers in the 1900s. Often, reformer pilates will be taught as a pilates class with either one, or two people per machine taking in turns.

What is the difference between Pilates and reformer Pilates?

Pilates is based on the original exercises invented by Joseph Pilates and is carried out on pilates mat, whereas reformer pilates uses a machine which has various pulleys and ropes attached to a platform on which the same or similar exercises are performed. Mat-based pilates is a very safe way to build strength and confidence in movement. There are also various pieces of pilates equipment that can be used for mat pilates such as a pilates ring, pilates ball, pilates band, and weights to make the exercises more challenging.
